PHOTO: Kara-Dag - Crimea's Wild Coast

In the shadow of rising tension in Ukraine, my brother and I seized the opportunity in the summer of 2013 to drive the spectacular wild coast of southern Crimea. I caught this shot of the Kara-Dag volcano “Black Mountain” that rises from the earth in a fortress of jagged rock minutes before a sub-tropical strom rolled across the mountains from the Black Sea. Kara-Dag rises to a height of 577 meters between the Crimean coastal town of Koktebel and the Otuzka River valley, and is a jewel in the landscape of this spectacular region of Europe.
